Kai was born in Pusan, South Korea to an English Professor father, and a home maker mother. He and his sister, (Mesuni) lead a simple normal life. At age Six, Kai began playing hockey, while his sister took skating lessons. When he was seven his father died in a car accident. Soon after he quit hockey. Later that year Kai began taking skating lessons with his sister. Soon they were training together to skate Pairs. That didn't go well.

When he was fourteen, he and his sister moved to America to train. When he was fifteen he began skating singles. He moved to Oceanside in 2000, and he likes it here.

Kai is jovel most of the time. He goofy and some might say that he is odd. He has been known to do strange things from time to time. He's a terrible flirt, and a hopeless romantic. He's a all around good guy, or at least he tries to be. His motto is: When something feels right, go for it, no heisatation. Words he chose to live by when he married his soulmate, Anna Fujishige, in September of 2005.
